statement

my current practice is based on materiality and process.
by using discarded, repurposed and every day materials and mediums, which for the most part are not conventionally used within an artistic context, i try to investigate and test the fragility of not only the materials themselves, but also of what it means to create something out of nothing, of what constitutes a painting today.
although highly conceptual in terms of thought-process behind each work, chance and speed are often, depending on the series, key components of my practice. furthermore, there is a very delineated balance between the thinking of a painting and the making of the same.
the process of discovery, with its element of surprise and error, is not only welcome, but it is also a reminder of acceptance of the limitation of control in my mark making process.
